A Good Morning Chuckle
This morning the Hubby showed me this video and gave me a good morning chuckle! The spoofs for Single Ladies has really been over done, but this video just tops them all off and it is something that surely deserves this post. Check it out!
Boys and Dolls
Most people are absolutely against the idea of boys playing with dolls, but I completely disagree. Boys playing with dolls can be a great learning experience and can really teach them to respect others. My son loves playing with dolls, but he of course prefers trains, planes and automobiles.
When he curls up on the couch after a long day of fun with his little sister’s doll I just can’t hesitate taking a little snapshot of the action. He seems to love the idea of taking care of the doll, putting her down for naps, taking her on the slide with him and just being a good care giver. Why would I ever think of stopping such a thing? He’s learning what it is like to care for someone, even if that someone doesn’t technically need any caring. The loving, nurturing side of a child is an amazing thing to see, and really makes me feel great to know he had to get this from somewhere. “Brownie points for Mom today!”
Now don’t get me wrong I won’t go out of my way to get him to play with dolls. This is something he does on his own and does much more often then his little sister who seems to think she’s a boy. It is a cute thing to experience and every time I do I am always sneaking up taking a photo of it. Bribery for when he’s older? Perfect pics for the first date he goes on? I think so! Either way, they are just down right adorable and I couldn’t miss out on this.
So, do you think it’s wrong for boys to play with dolls? What’s your opinion on this…
Throwing Away the Suckies
Recently I took my son to the dentist to get his very first check-up. Was such an exciting day. He of course fussed through the first visit so we re-scheduled to do it when the Foreigner was here to join us and help Wee Man be a little more relaxed. It worked! Sadly we quickly found out that his suckies, which he refers to as his dough-dees (ya… I know, Papa started the silly name), were having real bad side effects on not only his teeth, but his speech as well.
He’s always been one that struggled to pronounce words and it has really started to get to me as he is getting older. So… the Foreigner and I sat down attempting to figure out ways to get rid of these teeth destroying things. Of course every way we thought of was going to be hard, and I tend to have a bit of a weak spot when it comes to things my children have for security blankets.
Throwing away the suckies can be hard, especially when it is something your child relies on to fall asleep, just as my son has done since he was born. He’d scream, have fits and refuse to lie down without them, which in turn led to Mommy getting upset and then giving in.
Funny Thing Happened!
Well… the suckies are gone thanks to Baby Girl being naughty and disposing them on him. One evening last week the Foreigner and I went for dinner, kids stayed home with their Auntie and not too long after we left I get a text saying,
“Wee Man’s dough-dees are gone, Baby Girl shoved them into a hole in the wall…”
At first I felt bad, but in a way, THANK YOU BABY GIRL! She did the bad deed that I was dreading doing, and he knows that they are not gone, they are protecting him in the hole in the wall. Yes.. I do tell him that. Whatever will get him to stop asking for them and get him to sleep.
For all those Moms out there who have to deal with the dreaded suckies all I can say is avoid them. My daughter has never used them as I never introduced them to her when she was a new born. It has been a fight for a very long time to get rid of the suckies, but thankfully they are gone and his teeth and speech will start improving drastically.
Some ways you can get rid of the suckies include…
- Getting child to throw away into garbage themselves
- Cutting a hole in the tips which will then make the child not like the feel of them
- Taking them away cold turkey and dealing with the tantrums
- Putting vinegar on the tips
It can be hard taking such a thing away, but it needs to be done. If you want to have children with prized teeth avoid the suckies! My daughter has amazing teeth, straight as a line thanks to the avoidance of suckies. Throw the suckies away!!
Tell me some ways that you’ve gotten rid of suckies with your children… I’d love to hear your crafty ideas that are of course “temper friendly”.
