June 19th, 2011 is Father’s Day. Yes we did just celebrate Mother’s Day but it is now time to change gears and spoil our Fathers. Father’s Day is a celebration of fathers inaugurated in the early twentieth century to compliment Mother’s Day in celebrating fatherhood and male parenting. It is also celebrated to honor and commemorate our forefathers. Father’s Day is celebrated on a variety of dates worldwide and typically involves gift-giving, special dinners to fathers, and family-oriented activities.
A man’s decision to become a dad has life-altering costs and benefits. On the cost side, the choice to raise a family often means scaling back many of the activities and interests that defined his life previously, in favor of spending time with the next generation. It also means giving up the freedom to be spontaneous whenever the mood strikes. We can conceptualize just how big these life changes are all we want, but truly understanding the impact of being a dad can only come from experience.
That said, there’s a reason why men make these sacrifices to don the title of “dad.” The primal desire to continue the family line is certainly one reason. More importantly, though, dads have the urge to bestow the lessons they’ve learned through time on their sons early. They want their sons to exceed them, to be even more successful than they were.
Considering all of this, taking one day a year to show your appreciation for Dad is the least any good son or daughter can do. While gifts certainly aren’t the only way to show you care on Father’s Day, there’s nothing like the sense of personal satisfaction you can gain from giving a thoughtful item to the most important man in your life.
This year, why not spoil your Dad with flowers. You may be thinking men don’t like flowers, but trust us, they do! Men love receiving something that they would usually buy for the female in their lives. Give them something they wouldn’t expect to receive and brighten up their day. FTD Florist has put together some great Father’s Day gift ideas so that you can spoil your Dad beyond belief!
