Can you believe how quick this summer went? I personally blame it on the fact this is my first summer ever working since I had the kids. I have never had an actual job that required me everyday during the summer months. Being a freelancer has generally allowed me to take summers off; but with recent needs and well adulthood… Mama got a big girl job!
If you don’t know about my actual job, read my post over here – no really HERE!
Now that summer is quickly coming to an end it is time to get back into the swing of things. By swing I mean my military style schedule that will be mastered to the minute before school actually starts! Every moment of our day is scheduled when it is school months. Just makes life easier.
Beyond the actual schedule however there are other things I need to get organized for… the back to school buy out. I literally go out, find all new affordable clothes, lunch boxes, shoes, backpacks and the few in class essentials. Thankfully we don’t require binders, paper and that sort of stuff yet. I do however buy after schools in because the sales are amazing.
Back to School Shopping List
My list isn’t as insane as most peoples. I only have two kids and they share everything other than their clothes. With them going into grade 2 & 3 we are still into the simple years. Our lists aren’t excessively large and I still luckily have left overs from last years purchases.
So, here is what I bought this year!
- Two (2) Fuel Lunch Boxes ($12.99 at Solutions)
- Two (2) Thermos Water Bottles ($24.99… I know expensive for a bottle but my kids are hard on bottles, needed durable metal)
- Two (2) Backpacks ($10’s at Target!)
- Fifteen (15) Crayola Pencil Crayons (Only $0.99 at Target! Can you say bargain?! I overbought!)
- Two (2) Pencil Cases ($2.99 at Target)
- Two (2) Pairs of Indoor Shoes ($19.99 each at Pay Less)… I also buy the next size up for mid year growth so they have the same footwear all year long. Less confusing on wee folk and teachers
- One pack of pink erasers ($0.99 at Target)
We did all our shopping at Target and Sears for back to school this year. They both offered some amazing deals and prices. I budgeted $100 each kid for back to school clothing this year and I was under that for each. Both of their clothes have been placed into a designated dresser this year so after school they’ll get home and change. This will hopefully increase the lifespan on school clothes and play clothes. Can you say fed up with spending a fortune?!
I am known for buying items all throughout the year so I rarely go all out at the beginning of the year. WeeMan is very picky with his clothes, socks, shoes etc so I do find myself requiring new things mid year for him. He has to have absolute comfort or his day is just not going to go the way he hopes.
Overall, back to school shopping I don’t find too overwhelming. I buy whenever I see good sales so I never find myself over spending on just things. Clothes, shoes, accessories don’t require full budget spending. I save that for fun adventures instead!
Can you believe school is back in session in a week and one day. Kids are excited! I am looking forward to getting life back to normal. Summers really do mess up a solid schedule but it was worth it.
