by Christine on November 4, 2011

Looking to get your kids off of your iPad? Know they will only settle for something similar? Look no further! LeapFrog released their very own, child version of the Apple iPad, the LeapPad Explorer this past September. Kids are becoming so in tune to the technology of the world, and providing them with an item very similar to yours will hopefully keep them off of yours and using their own. Check out our review of the LeapFrog LeapPad Explorer now!

LeapFrog LeapPad Explorer Review

The LeapFrog LeapPad Explorer is an item that every kid will have on their Christmas list this year. It has been designed to be great for children between the ages of 4 & 9. Has all the features your average tablet has, but designed for your child’s always developing mind.

Features of the LeapFrog LeapPad Explorer

  • Requires 4 AA Batteries (Recommended to buy rechargeable)
  • 5 inch screen (400 x 712 pixel)
  • Built in camera and video recorder
  • Touch screen
  • LeapFrog Connect app center
  • Durable design
  • LeapFrog Explorer games usability
  • Stylus (included)
  • Free games/ebooks available with purchase
  • Motion Sensor (horizontal/vertical display)
  • 3 users per LeapFrog LeapPad (including Guest)
  • Color selection of lime green and purple

The pricing of the LeapPad is quite reasonable for what you are getting. Through Toys R Us you can get the LeapPad for only $99 (CA).

What is Available for LeapFrog LeapPad Explorer

There is a huge selection of games, eBooks, videos and learning activities available for the LeapFrog LeapPad. Through LeapFrog Connect the parents have the ability to purchase their children a wide variety of fundamental learning games, eBooks, videos and also watch previews of each individual product to determine if it is right for them.

Also, through the LeapFrog Connect, you can monitor your child’s progress within what they are doing. This allows the parents to see where the child is excelling and also struggling. Now you can monitor how they are doing, what they are doing and know they are learning what they need to be.

Another great addition to the LeapFrog LeapPad Explorer is the “All About Me” app which is installed upon first use. Your child can create their own story about themselves, or whomever they choose, placing a photo, writing their name and designing their about me page to be what they want.

If you have a little photographer on your hands, the Photo Studio app will become one your child falls in love with instantly. They can take pictures, edit their pictures, save the pictures and print them when connected to your computer. Now you can stop buying additional cameras for your children and have one right in their LeapPad!

The LeapPad measures 2.4 x 13 x 17.9cm

LeapPad Educational Elements

There are several areas in which your child will utilize their educational skills. The following is the educational elements you will find with a wide selection of the LeapPad games. (When purchasing LeapPad items, check to see what elements will be covered in the activities as there are options available.)

  • Reading/Phonics
  • Mathematics
  • Art
  • Music
  • Language
  • Geography
  • Health/Hygiene
  • Science

There will be different skill levels and age groups for the game options that have been released by LeapFrog. Make sure to set your child’s age and school grade when setting up to ensure they are receiving the proper activities within their games and update as this information changes.

With both my children being huge technology nuts, always wanting to play Wii or use my iPad, this was an easy choice for purchasing. Each child has their own LeapFrog LeapPad and they are able to navigate the entire system on their own. We recommend this LeapFrog product to any parent looking for an educational toy that gives them the satisfaction of having something like Mommy & Daddy.

If this is an item you know your kids will love, save on it with our Toys R Us Coupons! This is something our children love, and know it is something every child will. Get them learning and get them off your overly expensive iPad now with their very own LeapFrog LeapPad Explorer now.
