Product Reviews: Does Negativity Still Exist?
There is something that has been bugging me now for quite a few weeks and I’ve held off on writing this because I know it will probably tick off quite a few other bloggers out there. Sadly, the fact this whole train of thought is bothering me and I know I need to write about it, I no longer care about their feelings. Over the past year, it seems the amount of product review bloggers has tripled in size. This what once was a good thing has become a must do thing and endless amounts of people are now doing it. Sure, it’s fun. It is easy and something bloggers can make money in.
My frustration isn’t the amount of bloggers doing it, my frustration is the amount of bloggers doing it without being 100% honest.
Negative Product Reviews Rarely Surface
As you all know, I will happily write a negative product review. When I am requested to review a product, I review it. There is zero agreement that I will do a positive review because let’s face it, I don’t love everything and I surely won’t tell you that it is a must buy if it isn’t. Why would I disappoint you? I write the reviews for my readers, not for the companies.
Good luck finding many reviews done by bloggers that are negative. Most fear to post them because it may or may not destroy their opportunity of future review opps. It’s saddening. I have posted quite a few negative reviews and I still get products to review. If I don’t like something, I will tell you why. I will fully explain the pros and cons of something, but I will not put my stamp of approval on it. I am blogger who is excessively honest.
We all know companies hate negative reviews. They want the good reviews. They may even withhold payment because of a negative review. I don’t care! Whenever I am requested to do a product review, I instantly state that the review will be honest. If I don’t like it, I will explain why and explain what is causing my hatred. I won’t slander, I won’t say this product is a must not buy unless it actually is a complete waste of money. I am honest. When the company sends me stated product, they are officially in agreement with these terms and will have to suck it up if they don’t like my review.
Can We Get Some Negativity Please?
One thing I wish is bloggers to be more real. Sure, that awesome new sweater blanket is the bomb, but c’mon… do we all have to look like we are in our third trimester? Let’s be real. It is not practical. We can’t sit here and say, this product is the best of the best and everyone should own it, when you know it is currently sitting at the bottom of your closet never to be worn again.
There are quite a few products we’ve reviewed and were down right real. We stated what really made our blood boil and how they had zero value to our lives. Why? Because that is what a review blogger is for. Review bloggers were created to review products. If we were all going to be only doing positive reviews then we may of called ourselves Fake Reviewers. It is nice that we have the opportunity to test out products and tell the world about them, but did you sign anything stating you had to provide a 100% positive review? If I was ever requested such a thing I’d turn down the review opportunity.
I Hate Fake People
Throughout my life, I have grown to disregard the fake in the world. I am me. I want people to also be themselves with me. I 100% disregard those who can’t appreciate themselves for who they are and put on this fake persona. This also is true when it comes to bloggers I read. If I am reading your blog, I’ve read through over half of it and will notice the consistency of ‘positive reviews’ and then remove you from my must read list.
I love bloggers that are down right, real. The bloggers who will state their child made them want to smash q tips in their ears until you couldn’t hear… they make me feel sane. They are real, they are on my list of gotta read daily and they are the bloggers I will drop whatever I am doing to read their stuff. They are the people that make me feel human. When they also write those negative reviews I am sitting here high fiving my screen and thanking them for deterring me from wasting more money of crap I don’t need. I love real people bloggers.
In the end, all I request is us bloggers be more REAL. If you love something, awesome! But do you really love every single aspect of an item? There’s got to be one thing on it you’d change. Tell me. I am sitting here all eyes awaiting your real reviews.

I’ve been thinking the same thing recently, but I agree with Whispered Inspirations that I would only review things I’m inclined to like. The other way I make sure I’m not selling my soul is, I try to find out Abt a the brand’s charitable causes, and I include that in my review. If ur interested in reading Abt it, my blog is fatekeep.com
Great post. The way I see it, I review products I want to try, have used or know I would like. Which almost always gets positive reviews. I pass up products I know I won’t like or use. I know what you mean about people who review anything and everything though. I loooove your honesty gorgeous!
OWNED.
