Mickey Mouse Clubhouse is a great program that runs daily on Disney Jr. Our family really enjoys the Classic Disney Characters like Mickey, Minnie, Donald, Daisy, Goofy and Pluto. There’s also a mechanical assistant called Toodles that interacts with the viewers. We also enjoy the fact that it’s not simply “mind-numbing” television as each episode helps kids learn to problem solve. In each adventure, there are specific problems in areas math skills, shapes, colors and counting.

Today I had the opportunity to review a new DVD called Mickey Mouse Clubhouse: Minnie’s Pet Salon that contains 5 episodes from the television show. It runs a little more than 2 hours of total time and includes the following individual programs: Minnie’s Pet Salon, Daisy’s Pet Project, Pluto’s Puppy-Sitting Adventure, Donald’s Ducks, and Pluto Lends A Paw.

As I mentioned, there are five individual episodes on the DVD, and each of them are based around the general theme of pets. If your kids are at the age where they might want (or already have) pets, they’ll particularly enjoy them although neither is really a requirement. We thoroughly enjoyed all of the episodes on the DVD with each of them having positive messages and information.

As an example of the type of problem solving you will find on the DVD, in the episode called Minnie’s Pet Salon, there is a competition called Pluto’s All-Star Pet Show that’s occuring at Minnie’s Pet Salon. When the two judges cannot decide on a winner because they both vote for their own pets to win the competition, they wisely decide to bring in a 3rd judge to help decide the winner. It’s interesting that Minnie is the 3rd judge and they ultimately decide that all of the pets are winners. This type of problem solving helps kids learn to work through problems they might encounter, and while real-life doesn’t often provide an “everyone wins” solution, for younger members of your family it’s a great feel good moment. I’m sure many parents will feel as if they should have determined a single winner. After all, that’s why we have competitions in the first place, but I think it’s appropriate in this case.

Many people like to buy DVD’s for collections, some enjoy the Bonus Features and sometimes the cool things that come with it make a nice added bonus as well. Inside the Mickey Mouse Clubhouse: Minnie’s Pet Salon DVD, there is a pet comb. It’s not a big deal, but your kids might enjoy having it. There are also some Sneak Peeks for a few other Disney products.
