Going from Fit to Fat, and Now to Go Back #SimplySmoothies

Lets just face it. I am no longer 100lbs soaking wet. My pants scream when I put them on, my bathing suit is hiding in the bottom of the dresser drawers and my zippers plead for their lives. In 2014 I took it upon myself to quit smoking and like most, when I quit smoking my skin all of a sudden developed an allergic reaction to itself and now I’m constantly larger than usual! See what I did there hehe. When I quit smoking I knew what was in store. You’d think I would of been a little more proactive to try being healthier through overcoming that bad habit, but I was already frustrated enough trying to not eat my own fingers off that I couldn’t be bothered. 

Now that I’ve overcome that hurdle in my life, it is time for my next one. My weight. Actually, let me correct myself here because this isn’t about me losing the weight, it is about me becoming a healthier person. Everyone is always so focused on the actual weight loss and the scale numbers, but this year I am focused on turning bad eating habits into great ones; and with those great choices everything else will come hand in hand. 

In Struts the Egg Whites

I hate to say it, but Daddy is right. Mr Healthy Everything is right. The best way for me to improve my overall health is incorporating healthier foods. I love eggs. I love sour keys. I LOVE Coffee. The girls on Gilmore Girls got nothing on this chick when it comes to caffeine. Yes, I know. That isn’t a good thing. So, in struts the egg whites. 

One thing I know is egg whites are a great addition to smoothies. For someone who isn’t a big meat eater like myself, they are even more important for my over all health. I used to be petrified of using egg whites in my smoothies. I have always been told not to eat raw eggs, and now I am being told it is okay?! Grama, you lied! Let me lick that cake battered spoon. My freezer has excessive amounts of frozen egg whites from Burnbrae Farms, but because I am only one person I am more prone to pop over to the grocery store and pick up Simply Egg Whites. They aren’t frozen and always just the right amount for my own needs. When Daddy is home however, he can go through one of those cartons a day! 

Smoothies are the Internal Mascara of my Health

Totally just compared smoothies to my mascara. Smoothies make my tummy feel good. They give me energy. They make me feel much better than the 20 gallons of coffee. They are what mascara is to my eyes. They make me pop, feel vibrant and really open my eyes to what I’ve been missing. Now, the question is what are some smoothies that are actually good for you? This is where I was finding myself stuck a lot. I can only drink a strawberry kiwi smoothie so many times. Not saying I won’t drink them everyday, because I tots love my strawiwi smoothies! The morning time is where I struggle most. I need something that will give me that HELLO kick I need to stay out of bed, without that disgusting after taste that makes me question what I did the night before. So hunting I went, and went and went. 

Silly me… I should of just turned to the people who make the product! Burnbrae Farms of course shares many great smoothie recipes for every dietary need. Right now my morning go to is the delicious Morning Blender Boost recipe. I however add my own personal touch to it everyday, some days more, some days less.

Morning Blender Boost Gets MommyMatter'ed

  1. 2 cups 2% milk
  2. 1/2 cup Naturegg™ Simply Egg Whites™, well shaken
  3. 1 pouch single serve instant plain oatmeal
  4. 1 tbsp liquid honey (optional)
  5. 1 1/2 cups fresh strawberries
  6. 1 banana, sliced
  7. 1/2 cup blackberries
  8. 1/2 cup raspberries
  1. Combine 2% milk, egg whites, oatmeal and honey (if using) in a blender
  2. Let stand for 5 minutes.
  3. Add fruits
  4. Blend until smooth.
