This week, MommyMatter is dedicating a portion of our website to road safety and vehicle safety not only to bring awareness to you, but also in honour of our brand ambassadorship with Sailun Tires. There are several things we will be discussing, things that we see on the road and things we wish we didn’t see on our roads.
Throughout the week we will touch several different topics including the things you may do just because and the things you really shouldn’t be doing. No, this doesn’t mean we are going to spend our week talking about texting and driving, even though we know this is something that isn’t discussed enough; and yes we will talk about it in a post!
Vehicle Safety is Important
Have you ever got in your vehicle and felt something might be off? Did you think to pull over and check? When you get that feeling, whether it is true or not you should check. In our community, there have been several cases of vehicle tires flying off of the vehicles because bolts were not tight or rusted off. These tires went through other vehicles windshields and in some instances killed them.
Giving your vehicle a one over before every drive is important. It is not only to prevent any unwanted events, but also to protect yourself, your family and others on the road. It takes 2 minutes and could save your life as well as someone else’s.
When I took Young Drivers, the first thing we were taught was the importance of a circle check. You walk around your entire vehicle, inspect it and ensure there is nothing on the ground around your vehicle. This can save lives of kitties in your wheels, bikes on the driveway and children playing in an area they shouldn’t be.
The circle check also gets you looking at your tires and areas of your vehicle you may not be able to see when you’re driving. Your tires are what keeps you moving. They should be checked often, if not daily. Tire pressure that is low can be fatal, just as much as loose bolts and unwanted debris. Taking care of your tires is a priority in our books. Without tires you ain’t going no where!
